dead tired

i am so exhausted all i wanna do is just sleep. this weekend was really great & we got to meet a lot of friends we haven't seen in ages. but i guess all the fun i had is taking its toll on me now. my throat hurts like hell & any moment now my colds are sure to break out. haaay! my curse before traveling!!

and as if that's not enough, yesterday, i chipped my molar while eating pork sisig. i went to see my dentist this afternoon for a filling, and because i was so tired, i dozed off while sitting on the dental chair...with my mouth wide open. no kidding! i felt myself falling into deep sleep that i had to wake myself up. i hope the doc didn't notice that.

pics of our escapades this weekend will be posted sometime during the 2-day holiday owing to UAE National Day. for now, i'm just gonna catch up on some much needed rest 'cos i still have a long week ahead.

an early rise

yep, it is bizarre that i am awake at 7:18 in the morning...on a Friday. i usually wake up late during the first day of the weekend because that's when i catch up on sleep. however, since we're going on a picnic today with my fellow Pinoys at the office for our early Christmas Party, i had to get up earlier than usual.

we are supposed to bring Pineapple Upside Down cake as our share, along with 2 dozens of Krispy Kreme that we are buying later on the way to the park. but late last night, we found out that the fuse in our kitchen's socket got busted. hence, the hubby couldn't use the oven to bake. what a bummer!

now we're trying to fix the problem hoping that we could finish the cake and get to the park in time.

i haven’t gone to the gym in weeks. apart from feeling lazy to attend classes and work out on my own, my real excuse is that my favorite pair of running shoes called it quits on me. i loved that pair so much because it had my favorite color splashed on it, and it was so comfortable! i’ve searched high and low for a replacement, but couldn’t find the right pair. you see, apart from the nice design that i look for in any pair of shoes, the ultimate decisive factor to consider my shoe find as “the perfect one” is comfort.

my bestfriend, who is very much into running, advised me to make a research on the right shoes to match my feet’s needs. i didn’t realize that i also need to check on other aspects such as foot types and the best shoe type for each. she also suggested that i check out other running items that i can use to motivate me to run properly and enjoy the exercise. good that she told me because i’d also need to consider buying from a shop that has a lot of options i could choose from. now i’m thinking of buying not just the running shoes, but also a heart rate monitor and a few good pairs of running socks, too, for added comfort.

going entrepreneur

the husband and i are planning to start up a small business back home, but we are still trying to think of what business is suitable for us to manage. we do not have any business management background, so we thought of researching on the best educational institution to enroll in so that we can prepare ourselves. we came upon Nouveau University, which we believe is a good niche for us to learn the ropes of establishing our own business and running it well.

being currently led by one of the premier leaders in the academic excellence in the US, we are certain that Nouveau University can hone us into competent business people. i may take up a course on Business Management as a second degree and understand the basics of setting up a business. it will definitely help me become confident with what i’ll do because i will be capacitated with the appropriate tools to manage a small business that i can also administer to grow.

meanwhile, Ryan can focus more on a specific field that he may be interested in and apply what he knows to the business. we also found out that Nouveau University has acquired a new institute which focuses on the construction technology. maybe Ryan could switch industries and get a new degree, too. from thereon, we can design and roll out a business plan for our dream entrepreneurship.

in a frenzy

with my holiday about to commence in a little over a week’s time, sadly, work is still up to my neck. i have to finish everything by Sunday max, and given the amount of work on my plate at the moment, i really don’t know if i’ll be able to enjoy the rest of my last few days in Dubai before i fly out. *sigh!*

well, just venting out my worries here. i’m getting all stressed out, to be honest, and i hope this feeling goes away soon.

building a dream hospital

i have a brilliant friend who is a devoted doctor back home, and is always active in participating in medical missions. he is very much into caring for the needy, and finds immense fulfillment in providing medical aid to those less fortunate people, especially in the rural areas.

one of his dreams is to be able to hub in his grandfather’s hometown, which he deems is in dire need of medical attention the most, and set up his very own hospital, which he will name after his grandfather. he envisions a small hospital where he may be able to extend a helping hand to the disadvantaged people and allow them to have the benefit of affordable medical treatments. he is currently sorting out ways and means to make this dream a reality.

as my friend’s father is also a doctor, you can imagine how proud he is of his son’s aspirations. in fact, to show support and encouragement, he is also sorting out ways to help him, too. his primary move to assist him is to find a place to set up his son’s own hospital, and fortunately, he managed to find one. since my friend’s father is dealing now with all the formalities involved in building a hospital, all he needs to do is start scouting for medical staff to have on board, as well as find some reasonably priced used medical equipment that they can operate in the hospital. he has a long list of equipment that he needs: a defibrillator, a patient monitor, a blood analyzer, an ultrasound equipment, a few anesthesia machines, a number of electrosurgical units, and some power tables and chairs, just to name a few. he would also need to stock up on some medical supplies that has to be ordered as early as now.

he is concerned though that he might need to shell out a lot of money for all of these, but i suggested that he should check out some refurbished medical machines and other medical products online, where he can get a huge chunk of savings. it wouldn’t hurt to check out some items that are on the clearance sale category, too, because that would mean more savings for him.

i can see that he is very much into this project that he barely has time to stop and rest. i advised him to try and slow down a bit as he might suffer a nervous breakdown or something. with all the stress he’s experiencing, he might just end up using the EKG machines he initially ordered. now that would be an ironic picture!

tapsilog forever

everyday is a tapsilog day - thanks to Chowking’s Tapsilog Meal!

whenever we dine at Chowking in the morning, it feels like we’re brought back to Manila because all we see are fellow Pinoys in the resto, too (well, except for one busboy who’s an Indian, and the guard who looks Bengali to me). the crew also plays OPM music, so it gives the place a nostalgic feel to it. recently, they’ve been playing Christmas songs that warm our hearts and make us wish the days would pass by so swiftly so we could finally be home. to be honest, it is the only place in Dubai where i actually feel the holiday spirit.

i am 90% done with my Christmas shopping, and i am so proud of myself. this year is a lot better than the previous holidays because i was more organized and prompt in getting gifts for our families and friends. but amidst all these shopping hoopla for others, i also need to find time to get a few gifts for myself. and one of the gifts i’m thinking of getting for me is a new pair of glass frames. how timely because there are Holiday Glass Frames From Zenni Optical, which i can pick from. The popular online eyeglasses shop has a wide array of choices, and this is what caught my fancy:

all the selections are really nice. and what’s more, they have $ 8 Complete Rx Eyeglasses, too, which are friendly to the pocket. good designs at a steal price indeed.

it’s so sweet of my Mom to send me my niece’s picture all dressed up with my old plaid dress. brings back fond memories and gives me happy thoughts, too :)

countdown to Manila

12 days from now, we will be flying in to Manila for our much-anticipated vacation. we haven’t been home for the last 22 months so you can just imagine our excitement over this trip. would you believe we have already started packing our stuff? talk about being eager-beavers!

Ryan & i are fortunate that we have been approved by our respective employers a 5-week long holiday each. but why do i feel like it’s still not enough? only 4 days will be spent on a short trip to Hong Kong & Macau, but the rest of those days are gonna be spent in town. i guess i’m just feeling overwhelmed because we need to attend lots of events like weddings, baptisms, and Christmas parties, not to mention family gatherings from both our sides. i can already picture the week of Christmas being the busiest of all. i just hope Ryan & i will find time to celebrate our anniversaries properly (church on the 27th Dec and civil wedding on the 4th Jan). planning for a weekend get-away on these dates is impossible at this stage because it’s fully booked everywhere. there goes our plan to spend 2 nights in Tagaytay! *sniff*

the OC me has already created an itinerary for all the things that we need to do back home. most of our days would involve food, and as early as now, i’ve already compiled a list of restaurants that we will dine at. thanks to my fellow blogger’s blog posts, i was updated of the new restos that sprouted since we were in Manila last. can’t wait to try them all!

besides seeing our respective families, i’m also very eager to see my friends, especially those who gave birth this year. one of my girl friends gave birth a couple of months ago to a baby boy, while 2 are expected to pop anytime soon. then two of my guy friends’ wives gave birth, as well, so i’m due to see 5 new addition to our barkada’s family.

12 days is just an arm’s length away. i can already picture ourselves walking in the streets of Manila, seeing Christmas decors everywhere, hearing Christmas carols at every establishment we’ll step foot into, listening to Chico and Delamar on the radio in the mornings, eating lechon, sorbetes, halo-halo, bibingka and puto-bumbong anytime we want and basically just feeling the unique vibe of the Metro that cannot be felt in other parts of the world. yes, home is where the heart truly is…and that’s where we’re headin’ to.

shower to shower

winter has finally come to sunny Dubai. you can imagine how each morning is a struggle for me to wake up, more so jump in the shower for a bath. i’m the type who easily feels cold so i need to keep our heater switched on for my bath. although we have flowing heated water in our shower stalls, an upgrade wouldn’t be such a bad idea. i mean., taking a bath is something we do on a daily basis, and sometimes we do it twice even in one day. a bit of luxury would really be nice for that holistic shower experience.

personally, i would love to have our own steam showers, just like the ones they have at the fitness club we go to. it’s so relaxing i could stay in there for hours, if not for the wrinkled look i’d get afterwards. it is always a delight stepping out feeling rejuvenated after a good bath, and i hope i could do that in my own home, too. oh, if only i could afford to have one installed in our bathroom at home! that would be really lovely, don’t you think?

anything about bath really excites me, so yes, you guessed it right - i already started scouting for some nice shower equipment prices online today. i went and surfed at Unlimitedshowers.com because i heard they have a good range of all shower-related products that i can look at. more importantly, they have some inexpensive collection, too, which are also of good design and quality. i just hope i could find something that will fit in our budget. the collections they have are so appealing that i’m seriously contemplating on talking to the husband to check if we can allocate a portion of our savings to revamp our bathroom. i’m crossing my fingers that he agrees because they currently have a clearance sale, and i don’t know how long i can hold to control myself from impulsively buying something. blame it on the easy payment option they have. i can just drop my credit card details and purchase is instantly made! safe and efficient, too.

if we cannot afford the stalls, then perhaps we can start with the shower columns first. for as long as we could find something nice to update our bath, i’d be the happiest home maker on earth! i will be more inspired to clean the bathroom and may just do it more than twice a week. i’m sure the husband will like that.

nocturnal caller

just when i was about to fall into a deep slumber, my mobile rang. goodness! it’s already past 3:00 am and this girl is still awake looking for a certain lady who she claims is her friend. i politely told her she’s dialed the wrong number and hung up. after 2 minutes, she called again. i decided to drop the call so she’ll get the point that she got the number all wrong but she was persistent she tried to call again thrice. argh! exasperated, i decided to switch off my mobile. and because she disrupted my trip to lala land, i will log her number to Report Phone Numbers. that will at least help me vent out my irritation and help others know what kind of caller she is.

pimp my blog

it is quite obvious that my favorite color of all is pink. well, what can i say - it’s just too girly i can’t resist its charm. and that explains why my blog’s color is of such hue. sweet, isn’t it?

while i’m happy with my blog’s design, i’m on the lookout though for other free backgrounds with shades of pink, or perhaps backgrounds with textures or designs that have my favorite color. i’m leaning towards the abstract designs because they look clean but funky to me. i might check out Backgroundlabs since it has a good range of nice backgrounds to choose from. i like browsing through their categories because the designs are quite attractive. not overly flamboyant or anything. simple just the way i like it.

since it's already late, i'll hit the sack now and postpone prettifying my blog to tomorrow. goodnight everyone! pleasant dreams.

i’m a convert

since i started putting on weight, i have deferred buying jeans because i was so afraid of how i’d look in them. i’m not exactly the same pea sized girl i used to be, and just thinking about wearing jeans again scares me to bits. i couldn’t admit this to the husband who’s been pressuring me for the longest time to get a couple of new pairs to use during weekends.

however, one Thursday evening at the mall, i found myself trying on a few pairs because Ryan’s favorite jeans store is on sale. and to my surprise, i found two styles that fit me perfectly well – the Lola Straight & the Sundown Jeans. they create an illusion that my hips are bigger (my body shape is an inverted triangle) and my legs a little slimmer. what made me more ecstatic was the great price slash on my choices. the Lola Straight was originally priced at AED 599 (USD 163) and the Sundown Jeans at AED 549 (USD 150), but i got each pair for only AED 99 (USD 27). what a steal indeed! i must thank my husband for converting me into a Lucky Brand Jeans fan. the fit is snug and comfy, much to my delight. i should’ve heeded his advise earlier! their jeans could’ve spared me from all my worries for months now.

as they say, finding a perfect pair of jeans is like stumbling upon a four leaf clover. once they’re in your hands, you should never let them go. i hope these pairs bring me luck, too! :)

smack in the middle of nowhere

last weekend was one of the best Ryan & i had for a very long time! we finally used my prize and traipsed to Jumeirah Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa to spend some quality time together. after my training last Thursday, dear hubby picked me up a little before 6:00 pm, and headed straight to the hotel resort. after more than 45 kilometers drive away from the city, we reached this beautiful oasis that welcomed us delightfully.

i couldn’t believe what i saw! the place was amazing i was totally bowled over! it was definitely worth the drive! *two thumbs up*

i loved the bathroom the most because of its rustic feel!

and food was just superb! during our first night, we had dinner at their lovely Italian restaurant, Pizzeria Le Dune. we wanted to try their famous Al Hadheerah Restaurant but when i called the night before to book two slots for us, i was told that the restaurant was closed owing to an event. it was such a shame we weren’t able to book ahead of time because the restaurant was apparently open to public albeit limited seats only. the event was a showdown of the celebrity chefs of Jumeirah chain of hotels. it would’ve been a wonderful banqueting experience being served food by those Michelin star chefs.

anyway, Pizzeria Le Dune did a lovely job at feeding us hungry souls that night. we were so famished we gobbled down our Pizza Capricciosa and a bowl of seafood pasta in no time!

we were booked for two nights at Bab Al Shams, and during our lazy stay, these are the things we did:

- enjoyed buffet breakfast al fresco style at Al Forsan Restaurant

- had some dose of Vitamin D at the sun lounges

- took a dip in the pool (the tabachina me)

- enjoyed an alternative rainshower experience

- had drinks & shisha at the Al Sarab Lounge (their mojitos are the best!)

- read at our own leisure

- watched TV (we were hooked to Animal Planet)

- slept to our heart's content

- surfed the net & downloaded our favorite series (internet was really fast!)

- strolled around the property & took pictures

Ryan tried to convince me to sample their Satori Spa’s treatment menu because he knew how excited i was about their renowned service. but i decided against the idea when i saw how steep the prices were. i told him i can wait till we fly to Manila since the price i’m gonna pay in Bab Al Shams is enough for me to get at least 3 packages back home.

since we checked-in late last Thursday and attended a barbecue on Friday afternoon, we were not able to go see the horses and camels which were scheduled for guests from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. we also missed out on the archery opportunity, much to my dismay as i was hoping to polish my skills (naks, parang ang galing, 'no?). i only learnt that there were morning sessions when we got back to the city. sayang!

to compensate, we just decided to take more souvenir photos before checking out.

our weekend was such fun it actually hurt going back to the city and face reality! *sigh!*

how i wish we could do this again soon.

barbecue time

the weather has been great the last couple of weeks. the air is cooler and the surroundings appear less dustier than usual. that’s mainly because the winter months have come! what a perfect time to go outside and inhale some fresh air!

last Friday, hubby’s company hosted a barbecue a few kilometers away from where we spent our weekend get-away. to savor the lovely weather, we decided to attend and join his colleagues for a fun evening. these cooler months do not last long so we decided to take advantage of it.

being outdoors can let you take pleasure on a lot of activities. aside from enjoying the sand dunes and roasting your marshmallows on the bonfire, you can also have fun preparing your food with the variety of grills available. it was so much fun watching people tinker with the gas-fueled and charcoal grills! good thing the grills brought were cart-types. at least they were very stable so there was no need to worry about them toppling over, especially for those new users like me :)

‘twas a fun gathering, and we sure were glad we came. we can't wait for the next barbecue invite to come our way!

caught off-guard

coming from a very relaxing weekend, you can imagine how difficult it was for me to wake up this morning. the cooler weather didn’t help because all i ever wanted to do was snuggle in bed and get some more shut eye. but my conscientious side got the better of me so i managed to rise up beneath the warm sheets and headed to the bathroom to prepare for the day.

as we were leaving the apartment, i noticed that the ground outside seemed wet. it was still dark for us to realize it was actually drizzling. yes, the first rainfall of this winter season has come! no signs of foggy mornings in the last couple of days so we were unprepared to say the least. halfway through the path leading towards our car, i suddenly realized that my bag needed some securing for fear that the Vachetta leather would be damaged if left neglected (read: leather is untreated so it is susceptible to water). i ran back to the building and wrapped my jacket to protect the bag and scrammed to get to the car. never mind running in the midst of a sprinkle at 20 degrees on a sleeveless top. hubby thought i was crazy! :)

this is one of the downsides of owning a Monogram. you have to exert extra effort to care for the Vachetta, otherwise, it would earn unglamorous stains that will remain in there forever. i am hoping for a wonderful patina for my bags, and i guess it does need a lot of patience and proper handling. i’d like my bags to have an even, spotless honey color in the years to come, just like the bag that has been handed down to me by a friend. i need to get that leather care set soon! as a precaution, next time i’ll make sure an umbrella is handy so come rain or shine, my bags will do just fine.

sorry about that, dear friends. i know i haven't updated this blog for the past few days. i've just been very busy lately. things are up to my neck, and i feel like i'm drowning already. this is just a quick hello to you all to let you know i'm still alive!

i'm currently undergoing a 3-day off-site training and will be back to work on Sunday. i'm enjoying the sessions so far. i'm the only girl in the group so i'm treated like a princess :) the only thing i'm not too keen about is that we have homeworks to do. by the time i get home in the evening, i'm already exhausted that i have difficulty focusing on the tasks i need to fulfill. anyway, tomorrow's the last day and i'm already excited with the weekend Ryan and i are going to spend outside the city. remember the voucher i got a few months back? yep, we're using that this weekend, and we're so excited!

so off i go now to get back to packing and finishing my assignments. catch up with you again very soon. the hotel promised complimentary wifi connection so i'm bringing Amanda and keep you posted. i promise to share our weekend pictures :)

never walk away

during lunch yesterday, i had a serious conversation with a few of my girl friends at work. one of them shared with us her current emotional downhill ride, and i sincerely felt sorry for her. despite that smiling façade that she has, i imagine she must be in a lot of pain right now.

if there’s one thing in life that i cannot completely fathom, it’s the idea of two people deeply in love with each other parting ways in a snap of a finger, with both ending up miserable in the long run. that is just heartbreaking! i’ve always believed that no matter how difficult or challenging a situation is, your love for each other should always be an inspiration to find ways to make things work, especially when you’ve shared so much in all those years you’ve been together. easier said than done, i know, but personally, i can say with full conviction that a good serving of sacrifice, more often than not, goes a long way. how do you think successful relationships get past their hurdles? sacrifices made usually earn their merits, at times later than you expect. patience is the key, i suppose. call me idealistic, but i guess i’m just like that. i can speak from experience because i’ve been through the same road once in my life. and i agree - it was never easy.

looking back, i am happy i’ve made the right choice of sticking it with the one i love. being apart for almost a year with him wasn’t exactly a smooth ride. i am not made for long distance relationships, but i managed to endure all those months. it was agonizing for me, but i presume it was worse for Ryan. it’s true what they say about people leaving. while it’s easier for them because they have something new to look forward to, it is always harder for the person who’s left behind because unlike the person who’s moved to migrate, there’s nothing exciting to look forward to – only an abyss that needs to be filled.

i am simply blessed that my greatest love had decided to follow me wherever i go. and if i am asked to do the same for him, i will say yes without skipping a beat. we’ve made a pact that neither of us will walk away…for we both believe that in doing so will end the most beautiful thing we’ve ever had.

i had the pleasure of trying out Zuma, our centre's latest gastronomic offering. hailing from Knightsbridge in London, this contemporary Japanese restaurant opened its Dubai branch a few weeks ago at the DIFC's Gate Village, much to our delight. our last Key Office Meeting was held at this classy restaurant where we were treated to a showcase of spectacular dishes that are to die for. one of which is their succulent Wagyu No Sumibiyaki. it was the tastiest beef i've ever tried!

i wish to take Ryan to Zuma as Japanese is his favorite cuisine. it may bear a hole on my pocket with the resto’s skyrocketing prices, but what the heck! with or without occasion, i am going to bring him there for a treat. i’m sure he’s gonna love it!

my colleague's Brown-themed party totally rocked last night! and thanks to the famous musical chairs parlor game, i managed to take home this nice prize. i also earned AED 110 from the balloon popping contest. not bad, eh?
